Nano vs micro vs macro: which influencer tier is right for your brand?

Follower tiers are not just about size. Each one trades reach for trust differently. Here is how to pick the right mix for your goal.

Choosing an influencer tier is not about picking the biggest number you can afford. Each tier trades reach for trust in a different way, and the right choice depends entirely on what you are trying to do.

Nano (roughly 1K to 10K followers)

Nano creators have the highest trust and engagement of any tier. Their audiences feel like friends, not fans. The catch is scale: to move real numbers you need many of them, run as one coordinated campaign. Done right, nano-led campaigns are some of the most cost-efficient reach available.

Micro (roughly 10K to 100K)

Micro creators are the workhorse tier. Still high trust, but with enough reach to matter on their own. They usually offer the best balance of authenticity and scale, which is why they anchor most performance-minded campaigns.

Macro and celebrity (100K and up)

Macro and celebrity creators buy you a moment. When a launch needs mass attention fast, they deliver it, if the fit is right and the activation is tight. The trade-off is lower per-follower trust and higher cost, so they work best paired with smaller creators that extend and ground the moment.

How to choose

  • Want trust and efficiency at scale? Lead with nano and micro.
  • Need a big, fast moment? Anchor with macro or celebrity, then amplify with micro.
  • Not sure? Blend tiers so reach and trust reinforce each other.

The best campaigns rarely live in one tier. They layer them, using scale where it counts and trust everywhere else.
